This Is the Beginning
My first article on my own website. I don't know exactly where the next five to ten years will take me, but I know one thing: I'm not backing down.

Today is 3 November 2026, and you are reading the first article on my own website.
I want to remember this day. Not because everything is figured out, but because it isn’t. I’m writing this with no idea how the next five to ten years will turn out, and with more conviction than I have ever had that there is so much more for me to do.
Where this really started
For two years, home was one small room in Ilorin. Four children. One mattress against the wall. Plans much bigger than the space we lived in.
On 1 November 2023, from that room, I launched Smart Girl Cleaning Services. I had a degree in Environmental Biology and years as a primary school teacher. What I didn’t have was a business manual. Everything I know about marketing, sales and running a business, I learned by doing it, getting it wrong, and doing it again.
Somewhere along the way, I fell in love with the thinking behind business: why people buy, why one business grows while another struggles, and how ordinary people, especially women, can build something that pays them properly.
Why this website exists
This is not a brochure. It is a home for everything I am building:
- That Nigerian Woman, my podcast about business, marketing and the psychology of why people buy.
- Becoming Kaffy, a documentary of my journey, told in real time.
- Articles like this one, where I share what I am learning as I learn it.
- Resources for anyone who wants to start or grow a business.
What I don’t know
I don’t know which of these will grow fastest. I don’t know which stages I will stand on, which doors will open, or how long some of them will take.
I am at peace with not knowing. Most people wait for certainty before they start. I have learned that certainty usually arrives after you start, not before.
What I do know
I know I am not backing down.
I have already seen what happens when you keep going. A business started from one small room. 150 elderly women fed across three markets in Ilorin. A YouTube channel that passed its first 500 subscribers. None of it happened because I felt ready. It happened because I refused to stop.
Why I am doing this in public
Because someone needs to see it happen.
There is a sentence I hear from so many women: “Someone like me can’t do that.” I said versions of it myself. I want this website, and everything on it, to be proof that the sentence is not true.
You will see the wins here. You will also see the lessons, the doubts and the slow days. That is what building in real time looks like.
An invitation
If you are starting something, or thinking about it, walk this road with me. Read the articles, watch Becoming Kaffy, and join the Business Growth Letter at the bottom of this page.
This is the beginning. I can’t wait to look back at this page in ten years.
See you at the next milestone.
